About HoCoRespond

The Community Foundation of Howard County, Horizon Foundation, United Way of Central Maryland,  Women's Giving Circle of Howard County and others are collaborating to raise funds and deploy resources during challenging times for our nonprofit partners on the frontlines of responding to needs in our community.

  • HoCoRespond funders have a long history of collaboration, including granting over $600,000 in 2020 and 2021 to nonprofits in our community to support COVID-19 relief efforts.
  • The nonprofit community has been rocked by confusion and concern following executive orders from the current administration, with further policy changes looming that could impact the entire social sector and our most vulnerable communities.
  • We are here. We are listening. And, we are working together to consider how we can best be of support. We know that we won't be able to fill all the gaps, but we are considering how we can best leverage our partnerships for the most meaningful impact.

HoCoFunders are working together to:

  • Stay Informed: We are working to keep up with the latest local, statewide, and national policy developments to understand their impact on the nonprofit sector.
  • Consider Funding: We are considering if and when the time comes, how best to pool resources, raise funds, and provide funding that nonprofits can use where they are needed most, especially those who will experience funding gaps due to the changes, allowing them to respond swiftly to emerging challenges as the need arises.
  • Partner Together: We are working together as HoCoRespond to stand in solidarity with our nonprofit partners to defend and promote policies that strengthen our social safety net.

HoCoRespond funders are collaborating to assess where assistance may be needed, provide funding as we can, and accept donations to assist Howard County nonprofits on the front line of support. When funding is available from HoCoRespond funders it will be announced on this website and directly to nonprofit partners.

HoCoFunders will look to provide support in two areas:

  • Short Term, Basic Needs: Food, utilities, rent, and child care for ALICE families, immigrant communities, disability communities, and older adults in Howard County.
  • Long Term, Strategic Planning: Nonprofit scenario planning, future state analysis to support the future of our nonprofit partners in Howard County.

We believe that now is the moment to unite our efforts and harness the strength of our community. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and ensure that our nonprofit partners have the support they need.
