United Way of Central Maryland's new COVID-19 Community Fund for Central Maryland will provide what’s needed, where it’s needed right now: supporting the burgeoning number of people seeking help and access to basic necessities like food and housing assistance during a time of tremendous uncertainty. Donations to this fund will be directed to Howard County nonprofits to address the greatest needs in Howard County at this time.

As the Community Foundation of Howard County navigates through this health care emergency, we will collaborate with other funders and will develop a fair and well-managed process to support the nonprofit sector which delivers frontline services to the community. As our community did through the 2016 and 2018 Ellicott City flood relief efforts, you can make donations to the Community Foundation of Howard County’s Howard County Community Relief Fund.

The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County has established the WGC COVID-19 Fund to address unprecedented COVID-19 community needs.
The WGC is also responding to emergency needs in our community through our long-established Emergency Response Network (ERN). |
ABOUT YOUR DONATIONS
How You Will Make a Difference
What will my donation support?
Your donation will help provide increased access to emergency food and basic supplies, rent and mortgage assistance, utility assistance, child care, direct financial assistance for household supplies, and nonprofit safety and operations assistance. It may also be used to help strengthen our local health care system’s response or support our front line health care workers.
Will all of the money go to the community?
Yes. Other than a small credit card processing fee, 100% of all donations will go directly to support services and supplies for those in need.
When will you share who you fund?
We announced the first and second round of investments in April and May and will announce a third round soon. We will continue to publish the list of selected grantees on this website, along with short descriptions of the services and support they are providing. We hope that this will help the community navigate available resources.
Can I designate my donation to a specific organization?
No. These funds were created as general funds in hopes of providing a way to coordinate as many resources as possible to support those most in need. We encourage you to give directly to any specific health and human service providers you would like to support.
Should I give to these funds instead of making other donations?
These funds were not created to be the only vehicles resourcing critical community activities during times of crisis. Rather we are jointly working to direct more targeted resources into the community where it’s needed most. If the priorities listed above align with your values, please consider making a donation. However, this is a critical time for so many, including the nonprofit organizations who’ve benefited from your giving in the past, as well as those who’ve had to cancel their annual fundraising events or depend heavily on public gatherings. Please continue to give to organizations you regularly support, and those that need your help at this crucial time. Now is the time to double down for our community as we gain greater awareness of the depth and scale of the long-term ramifications of the COVID-19 outbreak.
